On Wednesday a few of us decided to put our membership cards to good use and see the Edinburgh Castle. After all meeting up we finally (a few out of breath) made it up the Royal Mile to the castle. Now, since being here for a little over 2 weeks, I would say we have gone to the castle at least three times, but never actually have gone in it. The reward for hiking up there was that for the first time we were actually going into the castle.
It was so pretty. The history, architecture, views, paintings, jewels, stories and so on were so interesting to see and a lot to take in. Coming from the states, we don't really have castles (only mansions...50 Cents hey!) and the only interesting house I would want to see would be the White House (that is besides mine at this point). First we walked around the army museum, where it held all the different uniforms, guns, paintings, posters from the different Scottish wars. What I thought was pretty amazing were all the posters made war seem fun and the place to be. The posters seemed to be describing a park more than a war life if you ask me. After walking around and around we finally found our way out and headed to the top of the castle. Where we proceeded to take some more pictures and really act like tourists. Then we went into the jewel room, where it has the crown, ring, necklace and a few other expensive pieces of jewelry. We weren't allowed to take pictures (duh!), but I guess Scotland has recently obtained these jewels, only in the past few years.
Here are a few pictures from the day...

Then on Friday I finally had my first bagel since arriving in Edinburgh and for those who know me that is a long time not eating a bagel. When I am home I will have a bagel and diet coke every morning for breakfast (there better be Lenders New York Style bagels in the freezer when I get home mom and dad!). The bagel was fine, nothing like a Dunkin Donuts bagel, but I guess one from Elephants and Bagels will do for the next few months. Next time I will remember to ask for it to be toasted twice...it was a little soft for my liking. Yes, don't judge me, I did take a picture of my bagel...I couldn't help myself!

I think from now on I will reward myself on Fridays with a bagel for getting through another week here! That will give me something to look forward to each week!
Ok, look for another post tomorrow about my trip this weekend. I am too tired to do it now and I think it would be too much to read!
Cheers!
Chels,
ReplyDeleteHave you had a Scottish breakfast yet? I don't think it includes a bagel with cream cheese!
Something called "blood sausage" I recall.
Your pictures are "brilliant".
Love you
