After my class at 11 today, I went to the student lounge/common area to have a coffee (I'm so tired) and wait around for my tutorial at 12. I couldn't help myself, but to people watch for an hour and listen to their conversations.
The first thing I noticed is "cheers" is said all the time and I mean all the time. It is such a cool word to say. I get excited when I hear it. I need to start using...make myself sound a wee bit Scottish. Cheers is such a universal term here and can be used to mean really anything; thank you, its all good, see you later, have fun and more. I think I'm going to bring this word back to the states and use it as much as I can; maybe it will catch on?! Or everyone is going to look at me like I have five heads...I'm going to have to test the waters a little.
The second thing is everyone dresses brilliantly well (I've heard that term a lot). The boys mainly were wearing jeans, nice shoes, a sweater, and a pea coat. While the girls had skirts/shorts on with tights (very popular look...I personally think it looks weird), a nice sweater and a scarf. At school, I would go to classes with sweats on and my gym clothes underneath. I am pretty sure I have gotten dressed up more for classes here than I did in my 2 years at RWs, oh well. No worries though, once I am home I will be wearing my usual uniform...jeans and a hoodie.
Third thing there are two different places on campus that can be called the student lounge and all of them have pubs in them!! In fact in one of the buildings there is a Library Pub. Let me say if RWU had a pub in the library students would be doing a lot better in their classes...I'm just saying more colleges should think about having one!
I have been paying attention to the different news happening in Scotland. I know surprising since I never watch the news at home, but sense I don't have a TV here when I see one I'm not about to complain that the news is on. One of the "hot" topics is college tuition. If you don't know all Uni's are free to go to, all you have to pay for is room and board, but I guess the government is thinking about making students pay for the full tuition...all I have to say "welcome to American schools...it sucks"!
Today is such a nice day, blue sky, puffy clouds and the sun shinning right into your eyes no matter what direction you walk in. Lets hope there are more days like today!!
Weel fowks that all I have to say!
Cheers loves!
