It has been only 4 days and it feels like a dream. Everyday when I walk outside and meet up with my friends I still can't believe I am actually here! Scotland is so pretty with amazing views each time you turn a corner. Words can't describe the view from the Castle atop of the Royal Mile. The locals say Harry Potter takes after many of the buildings around Edinburgh.
My room is really no bigger than the mudroom in my house and is the same temperature as the basement...the heat goes off after 20 minutes, so if your not here it won't go back on until you come back in and turn it on. Everyone who is studying abroad is spread out around Edinburgh. I am about a ten minute walk from Alexa and about a 15 minute walk from 4 girls I met during orientation. As a group we all went out to a few pubs and to a club, which was a great bonding experience. Orientation was interesting. We didn't have to do any icebreakers...YES, but we sat through about three different presentations, which were pretty long and boring. Come to find out that as of March 25 my classes are done. I have a three week spring break until April 17 then we have a reading week and then finals start and go until May 27. So technically, all of April and May I don't have a single class; totally different than at RWU. I am really nervous about classes, but want them to start so I can get into a routine.
When I think about what everyone said at home "Aren't you excited?" I would always say "Yes", because honestly I am so excited to be here, but it is a lot to get used to. The adapters, plugs, showers, sinks, toilets, internet service is all so different than at home. Everything that I want to plug in needs an adapter, the showers have no pressure, you either have to turn on the hot water or the cold water...there is no in between, the toilets are similar to Friendly's toilets and there is really no wifi...what?! This is a whole new experience for me and I could never imagine being in a place where they don't speak English. With all that said, I know the time here is going to go by so fast. Just yesterday when I finally moved into my room for the semester I was lugging my luggage up the stairs and I could not help, but say to myself "Pretty soon I am going to be lugging this luggage back downstairs to go home!" At this point even though I am happy to be here, I know I am going to be super excited to go home in a few months!!
I apologize for how long it took me to finally write this, but I didn't have internet service until yesterday. I will post pictures tomorrow so you can see my view from my window and around town. But other than that let the time start going I want to get to March!!
Welcome to the UK... Love the post, and I am looking forward to reading more.
